Third Workshop Held at ANA Maintenance Hangar – May 28, 2025

On Wednesday, May 28, we held the third AIR2CAR workshop at the ANA maintenance hangar next to Haneda Airport. In addition to regular participants from aircraft and automobile manufacturers and trading companies, the session welcomed new organizational members specializing in dismantling, equipment development, and operational analysis. The day began with a guided tour of the hangar, highlighting key aircraft structures, dismantling points, and operational equipment.
Participants examined landing gear jacks, movable work decks, and scaffolding systems designed for dual-side access.
Following the tour, a Q&A session in the conference room explored hangar construction costs, necessary maintenance equipment, and airline expectations for dismantling operations. ANA provided detailed answers, sparking productive discussions on potential business opportunities. Seeing the facilities firsthand allowed participants to refine their ideas and plan for future collaborations.
Discussions continued online after the session, ensuring momentum and engagement beyond the workshop.
  • Second Workshop Held on March 13-14, 2025

The Second Workshop took place over two days in Toyama City.

On March 13, participants discussed the business model, company roles, and organizational structure for efficient aircraft dismantling. Key points included: using aircraft design data to separate materials without mixing, and exchanging design data among airlines, recyclers, and automotive partners—potentially as an NPO-led business activity.

On March 14, participants visited Toyotomi Sangyo’s recycling plant for cars, buses, trains, and aircraft. They reviewed material separation processes and challenges, such as processing copper wire insulation and mixed aluminum types. The visit highlighted strong potential for collaboration with the NPO to ensure high-quality recycled materials through design-based dismantling and separation.
  • January 23, 2025: Launch of the First Workshop

On January 20–21, 2025, we held the first AIR2CAR workshop, investigating the potential for recycling materials from aircraft to automobiles.

The workshop brought together 13 participants from aircraft and automobile manufacturers, trading companies, airlines, universities, and government agencies, all sharing an interest in this innovative recycling approach.
On January 20, the group visited Odate-Noshiro Airport and DOWA Kosaka Smelting (Metal Mine, Ecosystem, Japan PGM), followed by a full-group discussion.
On January 21, participants toured Akita Ecoplush and the Akita Port offshore wind power facility, gaining hands-on insight into advanced recycling and energy systems.
